Why Port St. Lucie works for golfers

Port St. Lucie has one of the widest ranges of golf living on the Treasure Coast, from public courses next door to private, gated clubs.

The biggest name is the PGA Golf Club in PGA Village, with 54 holes of championship golf designed by Tom Fazio and Pete Dye. Around it are private clubs like Tesoro Club, the Santa Lucia River Club at Ballantrae and the newer Glynlea Country Club, plus established neighborhoods built around public courses where you can play without a membership.

The first thing to decide isn’t the course. It’s how you want membership to work, because that changes your monthly costs and your social life more than anything else.

Membership types, simply explained

  • Included or mandatory: club membership comes with the home, with dues as part of living there
  • Private, optional: a private club you can choose to join, usually with an initiation fee and annual dues
  • Public or semi-private: pay as you play, often with resident discounts or annual passes

Questions to ask every club

  • Initiation fee, annual dues and any food and beverage minimum
  • Is the club equity or non-equity, and are there assessments?
  • Tee time access, guest policies and cart fees
  • Waitlists and transfer rules if you sell

Port St. Lucie’s golf communities

Gated · Optional membership

PGA Village

The home of the PGA Golf Club, with the Wanamaker, Ryder and Dye courses (54 holes designed by Tom Fazio and Pete Dye), a 6-hole family short course and a renovated practice facility. The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club, a private Jim Fazio course with six tennis courts, is also inside PGA Village. Homes range from condos and villas to estate homes in enclaves like Sabal Creek.

Good to know: Golf membership is optional in many PGA Village neighborhoods, and the PGA Golf Club books public tee times. See my PGA Village page.
Gated · Private club

Tesoro Club

A guard-gated, roughly 1,490-acre private community with two championship courses, the Palmer Course by Arnold Palmer and the Watson Course by Tom Watson, plus a swim and racquet club with nine Har-Tru tennis courts and 11 pickleball courts. Homes range from about 2,000 to 7,000 square feet.

Good to know: Tesoro Club is a non-equity private club with Full and Social memberships, each with an initiation fee and annual dues. Some homesites don’t require golf membership, so ask about the specific home.
Gated · North Fork of the St. Lucie River

Ballantrae and the Santa Lucia River Club

A riverfront community on the North Fork of the St. Lucie River, built around the Santa Lucia River Club, an 18-hole private course designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1993.

Good to know: Membership is optional for residents. Ask about current membership categories and fees.
Gated · Wylder

Glynlea Country Club

A roughly 560-acre gated club community within the Wylder master-planned community, built around Jim Furyk’s first signature course, which he designed to be playable for all skill levels.

Good to know: This is one of the newer golf communities in the city, so homes are mostly new construction. Ask how membership and dues are structured for each neighborhood.
Gated · Club membership included

Astor Creek Golf & Country Club

A newer gated club community in western Port St. Lucie with an 18-hole course, a 15-acre driving range and a large practice putting green, plus a clubhouse with dining, fitness, a resort pool, tennis and pickleball.

Good to know: Golf and club membership is included with many homes here, so the cost is built into your dues. Compare that against paying separately at an optional club.
St. Lucie West · Public golf

Country Club Estates and St. Lucie Trail Golf Club

Several neighborhoods in St. Lucie West back onto St. Lucie Trail Golf Club, an 18-hole public course revitalized by Jim Fazio.

Good to know: No membership required, which keeps costs down. See my St. Lucie West page.
North Port St. Lucie · Public golf

St. James Golf Club

A gated neighborhood in northern Port St. Lucie set along a public golf course.

Good to know: No membership required. A good fit if you want golf-course views without club dues.
East Port St. Lucie · Public golf

Sandpiper Bay and The Saints

An established neighborhood near the St. Lucie River with The Saints, an 18-hole public course owned by the city.

Good to know: Homes here are generally older, so prices are often lower than in the newer golf communities.

Community and club details are from club and community materials and local sources as of 2026 and can change. Always confirm membership terms, fees and transfer rules directly with the club.

Jessica’s local take

Play the course and eat at the club before you buy. Membership is a social choice as much as a golf one. I’ll also put each community’s HOA, club dues and any CDD side by side, so you can see the real yearly cost of the golf lifestyle you want.

Golf options for 55+ buyers

Several of Port St. Lucie’s 55+ neighborhoods sit next to or near golf, including a section of PGA Village Verano beside the PGA Golf Club, and communities like Cascades and Savanna Club with their own smaller courses. Many 55+ buyers also live in an all-ages community and join an optional club. See my 55+ communities guide for the full list.

Before you buy

What to check on a golf course home

  • Which hole and which side. Homes on the right side of a fairway (for right-handed golfers) get more stray balls. Tee boxes and greens bring more activity.
  • Views and privacy. Look at what’s across the fairway, cart path placement and how close the next home is.
  • Course condition and plans. Ask about renovations, closures and the club’s finances.
  • Insurance and screens. Ask insurers about golf-ball damage and check pool cage and window condition.
  • All-in costs. HOA, club dues, food and beverage minimums, CDD and insurance together.
